Signature Productions, in conjunction with Super Summer Theatre, will be holding auditions for their upcoming production ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, a Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale The Little Mermaid. DIR, Steve Huntsman; CHOREO, Shannon Winkel. Contract: Non-Union (Stipend). Rehearsal Dates: Begins in Early June, 2009. Performance Dates: Scheduled for August 12-29, 2009.
Breakdown-- Ti Moune: 16-30, female, beautiful peasant girl from an uncertain past with childlike innocence. She's an unselfish dreamer about to embark on a journey that will test her strength and challenge her spirit. Strong Singer/Actor. Must dance well; Daniel Beaxhomme: 20-35, male, a "grande homme", handsome and well-bred, aristocratic and loyal to the traditions of his people. He longs for something more and finds something in Ti Moune that he's never found before in any other woman. Including the woman he's about to marry. Strong Actor/Singer. Athletic build. Must move well. Dance a plus; Tonton Julian: 30-50, male, Ti Moune's adoptive father. A strong spiritual man who possesses great wisdom and unconditional love. Strong Singer/Actor. Must move well;Mama Euralie: 30-50, female, TiMoune's adoptive mother. Her strong, warm, nurturing and understanding heart allows her the ability to let go of the one gift she fears losing. Strong Singer/Actor. Must move well; Andrea Devereaux: 18-35, female, Daniel's betrothed, elegant and refined. She is the pillar of high society. Her affection and sense of possession over Daniel allows her the ability to manipulate and an unsuspecting TiMoune. Strong Singer/Actor. Must Move well;Armand: 20-40, male, Daniel's stern father, a man who pleasures himself with what or whomever he wishes. Actor/Singer. Must move well. Dance a plus; Agwe: 25-45, male, the God of Water, responsible for the storm that ultimately brings two different worlds together. Strong Singer/Actor. Must move well. Dance a plus; Papa Ge: 25-40, male, the Demon of Death. He pleasures in the pain of others and strikes up a deal of everlasting proportions with Ti Moune. Strong Actor/Singer. Must move well. Dance and acrobatics a plus; Asaka: 25-45, female, Mother of the Earth and spirit of the island. Protector of Ti Moune as she ventures into uncharted territory. Strong Singer/Actor. Must Move well. Dance a plus; Erzulie: 25-40, female, the Goddess of Love and protector of Ti Mounes heart. She sees Ti Moune's capacity for love and convinces the gods to give in to the desires of her unselfish heart. Strong Singer/Actor. Must move well. Dance a plus;Little Girl (Ti Moune): 7-12, female, a child frightened by a terrible storm who finds herself a part of the story. Singer/Actor. Must move well.
Prepare a song selection that best displays the voice. If the selection is not from Once On This Island, bring sheet music in correct key. An accompanist will be provided. CDs or tracks will not be accommodated in the audition. Auditioners may be asked to read from the script and participate in improvisations. All ethnicities are encouraged to audition.
